Prichard, Alabama – The Department of Homeland Security has awarded an Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) in the amount of $82,540 in response to the application submitted by the Prichard Fire & Rescue Department. This grant requires a contribution of at least 10% of the Federal funds awarded, or $8,254 for a total budget of $90,794.
An award ceremony to bless the equipment and materials purchased with these funds will take place on Friday, October 2, 2020 from 10 a.m. – 12 noon at Prichard Central Fire Station located at 303 West Turner Road, Prichard 36610. The ceremony will include local legislators, local community members, and the Prichard Fire Department staff. Interim Fire Chief David M. Hale, a 15 year veteran of the Prichard Fire & Rescue Department, will lead the ceremony.
“The entire department and I are thrilled and thankful for the AFG award,” Interim Fire Chief David M. Hale, Sr. said. “This award is a true blessing, allowing us to purchase much needed equipment to better serve our residents and keep our fellow firefighters safe.”
Mayor Jimmie Gardner added, “This award is exactly what our outstanding first responders need to ensure that they can do what they are trained to do to the best of their ability. We are thankful to the Department of Homeland Security and to our local point person who ushered this request to a successful close, Michael Magnoli. It is this spirit of teamwork that makes Prichard the City of Champions.”
