Prichard, Alabama – June 23, 2020: Mayor Jimmie Gardner has hired CoachedUp, a local coaching and leadership facilitation company, to deliver diversity, inclusion, and sensitivity training. This session will begin with internal teams including the City of Prichard staff and the Prichard Police Department, and may expand to include external entities including local businesses and other organizations.
“I decided to implement a sensitivity training series at this critical time because racial disparity awareness is at its apex. Over the past few weeks, the world has paid attention to horrible images of law enforcement gone wrong, but unfortunately those few reflect on the whole. We’ve also seen destruction and lawlessness – not by peaceful protestors, but by those who seek to steal the moment for their own selfish goals,” Mayor Gardner said. “It’s time for a new conversation that supports problem solving and healing. These trainings aim to set the tone and create a safe space to engage productively.”
The training, ‘Inclusion is the Solution – Managing Diversity Goals through Effective Inclusion & Sensitivity Practices’, will be facilitated by Leavie King, CEO of CoachedUp on Thursday, June 25th from 10 a.m. – 12 noon.
If media would like to attend in full or in part, please contact the Office of the Mayor via email at firstname.lastname@example.org by Thursday, June 25th at 9 a.m. for a Zoom link.
All other questions can be emailed to the address above or called in at (251) 452-7800, extension 8.
