MAYOR GARDNER ISSUES STATEMENT ABOUT CORONAVIRUS
Prichard, Alabama – March 02, 2020: Mayor Jimmie Gardner issued the following statement to address citizen concerns about coronavirus.
- Mayor Gardner: “The coronavirus outbreak, which originated in China, has reached the United States of America. As of this point in time, there have not been any confirmed cases of the illness reported in the State of Alabama; however, we should remain vigilant and take decisive action to protect the employees and citizens of the City of Prichard. To facilitate, we will be providing hand sanitizer to individuals visiting the A.J. Cooper Municipal Complex and other buildings controlled by the City of Prichard.
- In addition to actions facilitated by the administration, we are asking citizens to take the following precautions: 1) practice good personal hygiene; 2) wash your hands with soap or an alcohol-based hand sanitizer; 3) stay home if you are sick with a respiratory illness; 4) avoid close contact with other people who are sick with a respiratory illness; 5) cough or sneeze into a tissue or the crook of your elbow to avoid spreading respiratory droplets; and, 6) clean surfaces, counter tops, and doorknobs with disinfectant on a regular basis.”
- If the City of Prichard receives any relevant information from the Center for Disease Control (CDC), the State of Alabama, or Mobile County officials, we will let the citizens of Prichard know immediately.”
