Napoleon Bracy, Jr. Vice President of the Prichard City Council/District 3, kicks off Black History month with the re-dedicating of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.
Birmingham and Montgomery Streets was re-named Dr. Martin Luther King Drive because they have a strong significance to the Civil Rights movement and the legacy of Dr. King, Montgomery Street represents the Bus Boycott and Birmingham Street represent Dr. King’s famous “Letter from a Birmingham Jail”. Councilman Bracy feels that the significance of the re-dedication will continue to promote non violence in the City of Prichard and reclaim the neighborhoods while reminding the community of what Dr. King stood for. The Prichard Boxing Academy was very instrumental in helping to raise the money to purchase these signs.
The ceremony will take place on Friday, February 1, 2008 at 4:00 p.m. at the corner of MLK and Montgomery Streets:
