
For the first time in history, on Thursday, November 1, 2007, the Prichard Fire & Rescue Department (PFRD) appointed not one but two Chaplains. When newly appointed Fire Chief Mark Trenier first assumed his position, it was a major concern to him that there was no one designated as Chaplain for the department. Trenier says” When tragedy strikes, a people need consoling, that’s the job for a man of the cloth. We (fire-fighters) do our best to console our victims but if I were the person in consoling I would sure feel better if it was coming from a Reverend.” When asked why two Chaplains were chosen, Trenier said, “We want to have our bases covered, if ones not available we have a spare.” The Chaplains were joined by their families and lots of well-wishers at the appointment ceremony. Their duties as Chaplain are effective immediately.
